Teslas opened the way to the mass EV market, so all credit to that company.

However, battery technology is still a big hurdle. The batteries pollute, their components cannot be recycled easily. In cold weather, the range of the car decreases because the battery has a shorter usable working charge (diesel also has a problem in cold weather). And if you get water inside, the battery bursts into flames and it's a chemical fire that is very difficult to put out and can last a very long time. As in: not sure I'd be comfortable putting a Tesla in my garage and charging it overnight.

There are new developments in battery technology, ones that don't use lithium. We'll have to see where it goes, but for the moment, and despite the terrible environmental impact of fossil fuel vehicles, I'm keeping my old petrol cars. Not sure what I'll buy next... nothing seems good enough.

Okay I'll bite. We've owned three of the four Tesla models - X, 3, and Y. We had a few minor issues with the X, but it was a 2014, so an early model. Otherwise we loved it except I hated the stupid falcon doors. When the Y came out, we traded the X for the Y and I absolutely love it. We've had it for 2 years and the only thing we ever have to do is add windshield wiper fluid! Our model 3 is now three years old and same - we've had zero problems with them. We just really love the way they drive and never having to buy gas.

Regarding the charging network - I'm not that familiar with the all of the non-Tesla chargers but I've charged at many Chargepoints and EV Go chargers, and I just use my adapter and they work just fine. Some EV Go chargers don't take the Tesla adapter, but I haven't had that problem with Chargepoint. But unless I'm on a roadtrip where I only charge at Tesla Superchargers, or want a good parking spot in a parking garage, I mostly charge at home in my garage.

I am curious too like OP. Very much on the fence. Concerned too about reliability issues. Would have been good to hear from current owners. But this thread is mainly emotional rants.
