Super easy and super safe. I lived there for a year. I did not own a car. I took metro everywhere and, when I was lazy, took taxis. This was pre-uber so that might be an option now. I also walked a lot.
I used to go running late at night - like 10PM - and never had any issues in my neighborhood. Seoul is also a late night kind of place so there's always something happening.
It's a great town with friendly people and amazing food. I cannot wait to take my own kids one day.

Many people can speak broken English. There is a lot of English everywhere and roman letters are on many signs.

Worry about language should be the least of your concerns when traveling abroad as a tourist. Just point to stuff or use Google translate to get a broken message across. The world is too interesting and is a big place to sit at home and make decisions to or to not travel to certain places just because there's no English.

Heck, half the fun is pointing to a menu item you can't read and seeing what you'll get as a surprise.

Truly I found Seoul so fun and really quite easy. A friend described it as New York only cleaner and the people are nicer, and that’s really accurate.
Subway announcement are in Korean and English, airport has signs in English, and many people speak at least some English, especially in the tourist areas. I’d stay at an international hotel, because they’ll have things like maps with English and Korean characters, and a “bring me back here” card with the hotel able and address in Hangul that you can show to a taxi driver.

We also went to Busan and that was a tiny bit more challenging, but still very doable, especially with some help from translation apps.

A lot of people do. menus often have pictures on them too, so you can point.

I’ve traveled solo there once (female) and walked all over at night. We’ve also been twice with smaller children. It’s so fun.

Look up the Korea Tourism Organization online. Their resources are great. Seoul is a very easy trip.

Ozmzg yes, especially for women and children

It’s lit up everywhere and violence is extremely rare

Seoul Station (remnant of Japanese occupation) has a shelter for the unhoused nearby but there are really no issues

Public drunkenness with some passed out (99% men) on the street but it’s not like they’re goin to bother anyone, they just need to sober up

Come in bro.....S. Korea makes US look like a developing 2nd world country when it comes to infrastructure. Of course it is easy to get to basically almost evrywhere in the city.

Goodness, yes. Safe and easy to get around. I love strolling down the Cheonggyecheon at night.
