Exactly! Most of the tent occupants are non-violent but not all. There have been many unprovoked attacks by the mentally ill homeless.

Bowser is too busy trying to revamp downtown and getting the Federal gov't to cancel work from home to focus on pressing issues like crime.

I amazed at the amount of tents by the Whitehurst Freeway. I feel like I have never seen it this bad in the 20 years I’ve been here.

I’ve been living and working in big cities for 3 decades and it seems to me that the homeless populations are getting considerably more unbalanced. I think fetanyl is at least partly responsible. Crack addicts were desperate and skinny but they were not totally batshit the way a lot of these people are now. I also used to work in homeless services, so it’s not like I’m unsympathetic.

The rampant homeless problem is a DC issue and DC officials have pressed the Federal government to not evict unhoused people from Federal land in the city without a byzantine process that ensures that notice is provided and that there is coordination with DC agencies and service providers. In the meantime, DC kicks the unhoused off DC property willy nilly.
