This is OP and I wanted to let everyone know that I am still following (and downloading books!) and thank you all so much!

I just read The Understanding of Hart and Mercy and really liked it. The plot is basically the same as the old movie "You've Got Mail" where the main characters are antagonistic in real life but develop a relationship through anonymous correspondence. The setting, though, is different. Very pleasant and available from the library.

I went to law school with her! I feel like TIOU isn't quite what OP is looking for because it's about a relationship that clearly can't work past its hot initial sexual chemistry - not about falling in love with hope. Which I think is more what OP is looking for.

It's funny - most of the falling in love books I've read are either about doomed love, or about enemies to lovers - but very few that I can think of really capture that initial feeling where you feel like you've entered another dimension with someone.

So you basically don't have a recommendation.

Don't be rude, I was enjoying eavesdropping on their banter

Like another poster, I was going to recommend Emily Henry for something light and fast read.

For medical people, have you read "cutting for stone"? It's definitely not strictly a romance, but there are some deep love stories in it, both young and older peoples ' stories of falling in love. It's a longer slower read than Emily Henry but more satisfying IMO.

One Day in December is my favorite of the "meet cute" variety.
I think Rainbow Rowell is good at capturing this feeling, too. Maybe Fangirl?

Came here to recommend Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.
Same. That’s what immediately came to mind.

Can you please tell her to write something else?? Haha.

Ha. I could have sworn I saw on FB that she was writing another book - and given how successful her first one was it seems like an easy proposition - but I haven't heard anything for a while. We're not friends friends - FB acquaintances.

She's an actress, too, if you want to be even a little more amazed. Never seems to have struck it big, but she's been in stuff.

I love a friendship set on fire type of romance, so One Day by David Nicholls captures that feeling for me.

The Flight of Gemma Hardy was a lovely twist on Jane Eyre.

Act Like It by Lucy Parker, or really anything in her London Celebrity series about stage actors. Most of them start off with some animosity but end up making heart eyes.

Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas- it has great banter. There are real reasons they don’t make sense together but they can’t stay apart.

Rafe by Rebekah Witherspoon. Hero is the nanny. Low angst.
