Should that person settle for the American or find a foreign spouse who is better looking? I used to think international dating was always a bad idea but I recently discovered that statistically these marriages are just as successful as marriages between two Americans. It's also common knowledge that being a citizen of the US or other first world country gives you an advantage in dating internationally. Why not leverage this to get the most desirable spouse? I'm not saying looks should be the only factor, but physical attraction is important.
For you or for your wife? Because that Colombian cutie doesn’t find you hot.
A coworker had a mail order bride from Russia a few years back. He was shocked—SHOCKED—she cheated on him and left him once she had been married long enough to convince immigration officials the marriage was legit.

If both were Americans to begin with, they wouldn't be together.
I've been taken advantage of for $ by American women too, and if the success rate isn't going to be any worse dating internationally then I might as well go for it if the women are hotter. Look at all the threads here made by women looking for wealthy men (not that I am wealthy just early 30s making UMC salary).
You could first try therapy to figure out why you are choosing romantic partners who financially abuse you. Otherwise, it’s not much different from a woman saying she’ll date foreign men even if they smack her around because American men beat her up too and at least the foreign men will be hotter.
Or maybe, you secretly like being exploited for money. Maybe contracting with a financial domme is the right situation for you.
The reason why is right in the OP—he wants to date out of his league in terms of looks.

My parents come from two countries as far apart as it's possible to be on this planet. They met when they had no common language, religion or culture. I myself married someone from a different country than my two countries of origin. We know lots of people like us. Our kids are *very* mixed![]()
What do you have against people of other nationalities that you imply they are second best?!?
WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?
You misinterpreted my OP. I did not imply that foreigners are less desirable, it’s physically going to another country to date that would make things harder. I view dating a foreign born person living in the US the same as dating a natural born citizen.
