I’m with you, OP

Not seeing the issue.

Not the PP but it's a junk car. Wouldn't recommend any General Motors product aside from Suburban/Yukon or Corvette.

Depends on Mindel. Buick is actually a very reliable brand. Could be a fluke think. Either way you have to fix otherwise just get junk price. Fix and try to get a warranty

Yes I checked with the dealer. They said this issue (valve replacement) comes up with this year/model but there is no recall.

Did you check with Buick? Some models have 6-year/70k mile warranties. Also Google to see if this is a common issue for your car model and year. Sometimes the companies don’t issue the recalls but you can pressure them into cutting you a deal.

How far out did you check when you compared prices? Sometimes car work in this area is just expensive due to the HCOL.

That's a good question. What is the hourly labor rate and how many hours?

Car payments are now $1,000 a month. Do it

It would be helpful to know the nature of the “repair”. Eg, torque converter failure, bad solenoid, etc. It may be possible to purchase a rebuilt transmission with warranty for significantly less.

Thanks all. I was quoted $6-7k to replace the whole transmission but did not do that given it is not needed. Other shops were approx the same or could not look at or fix the car for weeks. Currently driving a rental so that isn't a good option for me. I would rather hold onto it now that I put this $ in but am now nervous.

Anonymous wrote:Disappointing that a car with such low mileage and such few years would need a transmission fix. Maybe research mechanical and electronic issues for that model, and find out whether it's a problematic car in general.

+1 or you got a lemon. A six yr old car with 55K miles shouldn't need the transmission fixed.
