Original suggested here. It’s fine. I’ve been doing it for 40 years and never had a problem. I just use tap water. It’s so much better than chemicals.

People on DCUM have so little common sense. This works and is not dangerous unless you are stupid and dump boiling water on your car.

I run my car for about 30 seconds with the defroster on. And then I use my windshield washer fluid and voila- no more ice.

This doesn't work in extremely cold places with thick ice on the windshield, but it's worked in DC for 15 years now for me. If there's snow I have a scrapers to push it off.

If it's cold enough it will just refreeze, even harder than the original frost

glass expands (like air) when heated. if you have a small area that comes in contact with hot water and wants to expand and rest of windshield is still cold, it has no place to expand. if you have any kind of hair line cracks, you will end up with much bigger cracks

Spray bottle with diluted vinegar.

You can use shaving cream to treat the interior of the windshield. Otherwise run the heater and A/C in tandem until the interior warms sufficiently.

Also determine whether you have a leak. Is your carpet wet? Are the sunroof drains clogged? If so address those issues. Then use silica packs, damp rid or kitty litter to help absorb excess moisture.
