Maybe OP scared off the old nanny and is complaining about the new one. 😄

As a nanny, I am begging employers to please understand that I am your employee, not your sister or daughter or mother or bff. I love my nanny families. I truly see it as my role to embrace and support the family as a whole, not just the children, but at the end of the day, you are my boss.

This is an inherently messy relationship with lots of blurry boundaries. The more YOU can keep in mind that I am a professional and am employee, the more comfortable I can be in your home and with your children.

OP, you should not have asked. She gave you an extremely diplomatic answer. Let it go.

It’s her industry, but YOU are not a professional in her industry. If I were an auto mechanic, I wouldn’t let a customer fix my chassis.

She simply doesn’t want non-family babysitting her child.

This is not hard to understand. The nanny’s comment was to shut down conversation with you on the topic. Your offer to babysit the nanny’s kid is weird and boundary crossing. She is your employee not a friend.

Maybe her kid has sleep issues and it’s not worth it to have the multi-day fallout from a botched bedtime and sleepless night. That’s why no one watched my youngest until he was 3.

Maybe she doesn’t want you in her home.

Maybe she or her partner were physically or sexually abused as children.

Maybe like me she just thought your offer was weird and she didn’t want to blur the lines between her job and her personal life.

I like to hire babysitters even though my parents will watch my kids any time I ask. When I come home from a date night and the kids are asleep, I want to go to bed with my husband. I don’t want to talk to my mom for 15 min first - “did you have fun? How was dinner? Etc.” The only thing more annoying and awkward would be if I came home to my boss.

Well, what was the consensus.

This was definitely posted a few months ago but with more details. Didn't the OP go on to say that she felt awkward around the nanny after that and was tortured by whether or not to say something to her? There were lots more details.

They were in the kitchen together, at some point? There was lots of conjecture about the nanny's husband, as well...
