You don’t have a child in MCPS. You can’t keep a kid home more than 4 days without a doctor’s note. It is much more “inconvenient” to take a kid with Covid to a doctor to get a note to stay home the fifth day than it is to just tell MCPS it’s Covid and stay home 5 days.

You can keep them home as long as you want. It's just an unexcused absence and no big deal. I've traveled with mine for 10-12 days. They said max was 14 days and they'd be unenrolled.

Never needed a doctors note for a week absence either.

No, you don’t have to. My students come back anywhere from 6-10 days.

We had it a few weeks ago and didn't return til two negative tests a day apart.

In terms of rules, who would care if you wanted to be more cautious? If you tell the school you have covid, it's all excused-- your call. Even if you don't tell them it's covid, the kids is still sick by your measure.

Incidentally, we simply said dd was out sick. They didn't ask what she had and they didn't ask for a doctor's note despite more than a week out. I think things are lax these days.

You notify the school so that the absence is excused.

It is only inconvenient if you intend to break the rules and return before 5 days are up. Otherwise, it’s convenient for your child because being quarantined entitles them to make up missed work without any hassle.
