Behind every great woman is a small man calling her unlikeable.

Too late now.

Too much ego. It was an affront to her performative progressivism to actually admit to being just another power hungry pol.

She certainly does not seem to have the wherewithal to reflect on that, unfortunately.

If Elissa decides she wants to run again, what’s the best path? Both of the AL members up for re-election in 2024 seem well settled. She could go after Brooke, I guess.

In what world would there be a groundswell of Ward 2 support for Silverman?

Her best hope is that Bonds retires or McDuffie abandons the seat to run for mayor.

Silverman lost significant support in Ward 3 as well, not just because of her "political player" poll but because she treated her constituents with snark and disrespect during the redistricting process.

it was amusing to watch her throw the Ward 3 Redistricting Committee under the bus for their map and then have Phil do the same thing to her. Slamming unpaid volunteers (who are all clearly involved in their neighborhoods) seems like a bad idea when up for reelection.

I think the only Ward that she would have less support than Ward 2 is Ward 8

Today’s Ward 2 is not your parent’s Ward 2. Lots of new condos and the new money is more liberal than the old money. The current CM won her primary by a whisker and has done very little since.

True but she is still the daughter of wealthy parents who probably has more in common with the residents of Georgetown than Silverman does.

Here’s a map to help you: https://planning.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/op/page_content/attachments/Ward2_ANCSMD2023_24x36.pdf

Georgetown is 1/7 of the ward. Also in there is Dupont, Foggy Bottom / West End, CBD, Logan Circle etc.. The ward encompasses some of the most liberal neighborhoods of the city and the new condos in the West End and CBD are bringing in a lot of younger folk.

LOL. This is a stretch.

She agreed with the premise that the ANC's should be aligned with Avenues. I am not sure why that is giving Cleveland Park the finger. It is what the Task Force recommended. There wasn't another way to draw the lines without breaking precincts or otherwise missing the goals as outlined by the Council, no matter how much people like you want to claim otherwise. Even the alternative maps didn't adhere to the election rules.

I am the same way. People keep harping on the fact that she introduced the paid family leave act, which was generally a good thing although not perfect. She is being super combative about the findings of the Board on twitter right now, too. Politicians can't expect to continue getting votes based on one act they got passed.

Believing that Ward 2 will go from Jack Evans to Elissa Silverman within just a few years is divorced from reality.

GU and GWU are an untapped resource for liberal candidates. If she cultivated them, it’d be more feasible. Also, Brooke just won her primary in a very crowded field which split the liberal vote. Brooke has been a bit of a nonentity since. I wouldn’t bet against Elissa if she went head-to-head with Brooke in the primary.

Is Elissa moving to Ward 2?

It doesn't really matter what the demographics of Ward 2 are, since Elissa doesn't live in Ward 2 and would not be likely to have a great chance of winning there if she moved only to run there.

I voted for Elissa and was very disappointed she didn't win, but I don't think the Vince Gray analogy is all that apt. Gray was under federal investigation for potential criminal violations; Silverman was accused of a minor campaign finance violation with no associated criminal penalties. Gray had been under scrutiny for months and months before the election, where this stuff came out relatively late in the campaign. In Gray's case, it was essentially the bulk of the argument against his reelection. In Elissa's case, she had already alienated a lot of other members of the Council long before the Ward 3 primary she was accused of interfering in got underway.

I very much doubt anyone's vote was decided by the finding that her sharing the poll with W3 candidates was inappropriate, though it clearly did appear to undermine her good-government image. I think she was going to lose regardless, though.
