This rejection might be due to something expressed in a teacher's recommendation or by the student in an application essay.

Anonymous wrote:DS got in to Colgate. We are so thrilled for him. His GPA was lower than what Naviance showed for admits from his school but he had strong extracurriculars (captain of several varsity sports) and recommendations. We are also full pay and acknowledge this gave him a distinct advantage. No other hook.

Academics do seem to be comparable and Union has stronger stem. But because Union doesn’t have as much name recognition outside the northeast, it’s easier to get into and caliber of students might be slightly less. Both are great schools though.
