Maybe that works for your family. In my family, everyone gets a stocking (even 90 year old grandma!), and it’s our favorite part of Christmas.

Yes, this. We love our stockings! Even the family pet gets one. It’s fun.

A nice glasses cleaner/cloth for glasses or sunglasses, Stain sticks to keep in the car or for travel, favorite kind of pens (my son always asks for these - the gel ones can get pricey)

Nicer versions of basics - Jack Black lip balm and/or travel size skin care products. Mini or small bottle of liquor he likes - or if he is into bourbon - a new one to try, high end chocolate or laduree macarons or nice nuts or jerky depending on what kinds of snacks he likes.

My adult kids still love Advent calendars which has turned into a game in our house. They will be home a few days before Christmas and will find a clue each day on where to find the loot. Then they will do treasure hunt style search until they find small gift card, gum, candy and Christmas day they will find a puzzle to which we will all work on that night.

Some ideas:

A small stainless flask, pocket size (I've seen ones with leather covers and little cups attached. Very cute)

Those heat packs meant to go in gloves or boots in cold weather.

Bombas socks

Get a photo book made of a favorite trip or two.

A nice quality Dopp/toiletry kit for travel.

Or if you want to go big, a Briggs or TUMI carry-on backpack for short trips.
