There are some less than exciting answers here because DC doesn’t really have local foods that they are known for like other cities. Just forget the DC theme and bring them a nice basket of specialty foods like cheese, crackers, jam, olives, shortbread, nuts, and wine. Trader Joes is a good place to start.

OP here - this is right up their alley! Thank you for the reminder about these! Also the Bloody Mary mix sounds perfect. Thank you all for the suggestions - really appreciate it. (Alas, definitely can't do the bagels - the family lives in NYC and this is just their weekend house.)

It's Upstate, so there may not be particularly good bagels where OP is going. But Mumbo sauce is definitely a better bet.
