Confused — is fentanyl a concern with the cannabis use you describe?

I live in Montgomery county. A quick Google search gave me this page for receiving free Narcan along with training on how to use it.

Which is what your child wants you think. You really have absolutely no idea. When I was a kid, I was one of the "smart kids" who hung out with other smart kids - our parents trusted us a lot more than the "popular kids" parents trusted them, which meant that we got away with a LOT more than the kids who had a reputation for partying. You have no idea, PP. Our parents had NO IDEA.

Your arrogance is willfully ignorant. Get out of your mind a 'druggie' and consider that high achieving families foster expectations that put pressure on kids. As a result, they tend not to embrace a growth mindset when it comes to achievement and then sometimes self-medicate. Please be open-minded and have frank conversations with your kids.

Thanks, OP, and to the PP who is the author of the article. I found free narcan by mail in my state and will be ordering it. I hope I never have to use it, but I'd rather have it on hand just in case than to not have it.

Thanks so much for writing this article, I wish more parents knew that this really could happen to their child and they don't have to be an addict...just once time experimenting can result in a tragedy. I lost a former student recently to a counterfit pill/fentanyl overdose. It is beyond heartbreaking to go to services and just keep hearing, 'how could this have happened?'. I am a HS teacher and the nurse doesn't even have any in the building. Please, please consider using the resources the author gave ^^ to have Narcan on hand.

Hi! I am the author of this Slate piece, and also a dad in Arlington. Thanks to the OP for linking to it. I really urge everyone, especially people who doubt the claims of people in this thread, to read it. Narcan is quite easy to get all over the DC area; in Washington, DC, for example, city government lists dozens of free pickup sites:

The one thing I'd add, though, is that most trainers will recommend you do not keep it in your car, as Narcan does degrade in heat. Keep it in a bag or purse and bring it with you, and keep it in your house.

My husband works for one of the largest private employers in the DC area and has two he got from trainings they provided. We have one in each car.

I have access to it for free at work (university).

The Rockville Police Department had an Open House/Community Fair and were giving out kits then. I was talking to the officer distributing them and their goal is to get them to anyone who wants and even have a "vending machine" type availability. You can always start by contacting them and see if they have any or contacts for some in your area.
