No it will be 2 weeks this year (2022), less than 2 weeks next year (2023 - just voted on) and back to 2 weeks in 2024 because it’s a leap year and Christmas will be a Wednesday and those are always 2 week breaks. School will go back January 6th that year, that’s how they always do the Wednesday ones.

We could just as easily go back Jan 2 that year for an A and B day on the 2nd and 3rd.

It’s possible, I’m just stating what I think will happen having been in LCPS for 15 years.

Which is why it is crazy that’s the one the board went with.

So…why is it the one they went with?
Maybe just to throw a bomb to distract from all the other news surrounding LCPS this week.

No they met at least 2 weeks ago to discuss the feedback from the previously offered calendars and announced then they were scrapping all 3 and going with a different option. Believe it or not these are routine things that happen each year and not a giant conspiracy.

This. The board wanted 180 instructional days. Teachers wanted a later teacher start date. They basically had to scrap all the other options and start from scratch. This calendar is actually pretty typical of what we had prior to 2017. We didn't used to always have a 2 week winter break and getting out early in June is fairly recent too. All the young parents and teachers just don't remember. I'm old, so I do. The reason I remember 2017 is because we took a big trip that year leaving on 12/16 because school got out for winter break "so early" and it was surprising. This new calendar is back to to the way it was for many years prior to that. That being said, I won't be surprised if the two week break is back the following year when Christmas is on a Wednesday. They almost always give two weeks on the Wednesday Christmas years.
