OP here. My SIL is exactly the same. She values the gilded and the shiny. She is impressed by jon titles and fancy clothes. My DH and I make good money but are less flashy. We spend on travel, good quality things, and enrichment activities such as education and museums.

She is the most rude and tacky person I know but it’s hysterical that she is deluded enough to think she is better than others.

And I think it’s hysterical that she gives you not one thought but you spend so much time thinking about her—and time is more valuable than money.

I am snobby but not about money exactly. I went to small town America and am very judgmental and snobby about how the people there spend time. In this case, they were smoking dope/drinking and driving. They have doughy faces and wear thick sweatshirts with pictures of American flags on them. They drink terrible beer—Michelob.

OTOH, my boomer mom holds her wine from the cite de rhone or wherever and asks if we have considered electric cars yet as though I just go buy a car whenever. A car is not in our budget. She also raves about the cleaning lady and I have never had one.

My middle-aged sil is. Waspy and white as the wind driven snow. She always thinks shes classier and better than everyone else even though she isntand her snobby attitude is off putting and gauche. She's racist too and a littleflashy with designer stuff. Financially she is not in good shape but she looks richer than us. Even though our networth is considerable, we arent flashy and drive older cars, live under means and save lots for future and soon to be early retirement.Fortunately she lives far away and we only see her once in a while. We were on the metro going into dc to visit the Nat. Gallery. As we got closer to the city, more black people started boarding the train. She started giving them the side eye and commenting loudly about the marginal people and subpar people around. I was horrified. No one said anything but I saw a black lady look at her with slight annoyance and mild confusion.

She boasts to people in mixed company about her young adult daughter dating a young man who makes "big money". It's in such poor taste. Since she doesn't get a reaction always, she repeats her tacky statements in case we didn't hear.

She openly looks down on people how don't wear designer this that.

She mocks people and gives the side eye if they have tattoos. After all only low class people have tattoos. Even a couple of her smart, educated niece and nephew who have some ink.

She's only friends with white people and frequently calls herself a good Christian woman.

She's a challenging person to be around and is also a hypocrite.

My MIL, BIL and his wife. They are insufferable.

Snobbery isn't always about money.
My mini cat is a snob. She only likes my husband and dismisses me daily like I'm some food only people. She won't even let me touch her.

My brother and his wife think they are Mr. and Mrs. Pope. I don't miss them at all.
