All of that said, I would go for a facial. A lot of facials include arms and legs massages - neck and shoulders, too - some even put warm booties on your feet. That’s good enough for me!

Have you ever been size 2x/18W? Because most spa robes top out at XL.

Not true. I’ve been as high as 3x. The spas still had a robe for me.

I would skip a massage and do a facial instead.

I would call and ask. I don’t think either of them are strange questions. I’m sure they can write a note in the appointment book to brief the staff too on the day of appointment so there’s no awkwardness for anyone.

No, one of those waffle robes, even in a 2x, would not take up a whole suitcase.
Not everyone brings a giant suitcase. You've obviously never packed plus sized clothes. They take up a lot more space than size 2 clothes, add a bathrobe to that and you're no longer packing a carryon.

That way they can assign someone who’s comfortable with it, or even recommend a different type of treatment if, say, the massage oils might be potentially irritating. I probably wouldn’t ask about a robe, but would expect the. To have a range of sizes. Maybe you could take one of your own with you as a backup option?

I hope they have a range of sizes and would see me and grab the appropriate one? So it's not a big deal when we get there or they give me a too small one and I have to swap it out. Ugh I just realized I'll need to change in front of everyone in the locker room.

For facials do you keep your clothes on at these resorts?? Any treatments I wouldn't need a robe for?

Call and ask. I guarantee you are not the first person to not want to undress or wear a robe that is too small. I bet the can do a facial without a robe, but may warn you your shirt might get product on it.

I’m sorry you have to worry about these things, OP. You’re not alone in having a skin condition or a body size that you’re worried about at a spa. And also there are lots of other physical differences that other people are worried about at the spa (I have a missing toenail and the toe looks weird, and I have scars on my back, for example — I don’t like to wear the spa shoes because of my toe, and both things necessitate a conversion with the massage therapist bc they look like injuries that the therapist always wonder if she should avoid touching). Anyway, just know that you’re not alone. Other people’s bodies might look typical from what you can see but lots of bodies aren’t typical in some way.

It's totally fine to call, OP. Do it, especially if it makes you feel more comfortable going. It'll be fun, try not to stress about it, and enjoy yourself with your friends!

I called the spa today and talked to someone. I'm feeling so much better, a bit nervous but better.

They said the psoriasis won't be an issue and the she said the robes won't be a problem they will note it. And she is going to send a note to the spa manager who will call if anything. But that they will be able to accommodate all sizes ( fingers crossed) and the massage therapist will call 24 hours before the appt to discuss with all in our party.

Phew. Trusting this process.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone

As a massage therapist I’d mainly want to know how you like to be touched in the places you are having a flare up. And also if I need to check my massage cream or oil for any ingredients that might irritate your skin. As a client I’d ask for one of their more experienced staff if I was concerned at all. We’ve seen pretty much everything. Also all bodies are welcome. - 22 years in the profession 💗

I’ve never worked in a spa setting so can’t advise on robes. Call ahead if it’s concerning you.

I hope you have a wonderful experience.

I would absolutely ask about the robe sizes when you call. If they are limited, ask them to describe their robes so you can bring one that looks similar so you don't feel like you stand out. It doesn't have to match exactly, obviously... you might even be able to find a picture of one in a selfie that a previous customer posted in a review of the spa... or the spa might be willing to email or text you one.
