Yes. They teach the kids in Spanish AND in English.
Our MS teachers give out assignments in both languages. Not all the assignments, but many of them are translated into Spanish. Hence, multilingual.
Yes but they did not teach the students Spanish, the students came in with that knowledge, that asset. It came from their families. MCPS didn't teach it. You just HATE that that they have something you want.

Kids who speak English as their first language do not get any foreign language instruction in ES in MCPS. The only exception is if your kids gets accepted into a Language Immersion program, which has very limited seats.
Kids who are ESOL do get a bilingual education.
What are you talking about? MCPS provides English instruction for all kids. ESOL is not designed to teach Spanish or any other language besides English. That is why it is called ENGLISH as a second language. These kids are bilingual because they learned their native language at home from their families. You are just angry that "poor" kids can have something your child doesn't.
Wow. So racist. All ESOL kids are NOT poor. This is a diverse area. Plenty of kids who come here speaking another language who are not poor.
That is why I'm put quotes around the word "poor". Anyone pissed about ESOL services has a particular idea of who the ESOL students are.

No they don't. They are instructed in English only unless enrolled in a bilingual program.

Science is terrible in elementary school in MCPS. It’s lumped in with Social Studies so they alternate. And MCPS got rid of so many of the fun Science activities (butterflies, etc).
The MS teachers at our MS lament the fact that MCPS science is just so bad in ES.
My daughter’s MS science teacher wasn’t too complimentary about the MS curriculum, either.
True. Science education in MCPS is quite poor. ES is almost non-existent, unless you get a teacher who is passionate about it and willing to add it in when he/she can. MS is also pretty bad.
Too bad, because science can be a lot of fun! Especially in ES. But, MCPS does like to suck the fun out of school.

Teachers aren’t really knowledgeable about the overall curriculum. They just know about the grade they teach. Our ES teachers are not a good resource for curriculum information.
Also, in MCPS, the curriculum changes often. Impossible for elementary school teachers to know everything about every subject.
