Given you hav two sides of the family as guests, you need to cook/ buy partial thanksgiving. If the MIL is bringing a turkey for Thanksgiving g, it is crazy ruse to not use it and give her takeout. OP cook the turkey, buy a few sides and order Chinese.

I think it’s a great idea to combine a few traditional foods with Chinese takeout. As you’re planning this, contact the restaurant that you plan to order from to see if they will be open their regular hours and if it will make sense to order very early in the day for a pre-scheduled pick up or delivery time.

Order the Chinese. Cook the turkey and make mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce for the traditionalists.

So, your husband has been under a ton of stress and would like a break for his holiday. So, you get to pick up the pieces; that's what spouses do.

See if you can find a place like Balducci's that has a take-home and heat Thanksgiving dinner. There were several places that were still advertising as recently as this weekend that they still had Thanksgiving dinners to order. Some are more expensive than others. If you can't find someplace that still takes orders, you can always drive out to the nearest Boston Market (they are in MD: Columbia, College Park, Hyattsville, Rockville and one in Alexandria, VA). You can go and pick up chilled (heat and serve) or already hot. Call to make sure, but I've picked up a last minute Thanksgiving dinner there. Not the best, but perfectly serviceable as long as everyone is there to enjoy family and company.

Then you can also get Chinese for him, but you don't have to disappoint everyone else who are expecting Thanksgiving dinner.

NP. It's not all about him. He can have his Chinese and your guests can still have the food they are expecting, even if you order it.

Turkey is easy to cook so you can cook that for Christmas. Everything else can be takeout. Don't tell the guests.

Your H is clearly under stress of some sort that makes this decision reasonable.

Counter offer ordering all sides and dessert from a restaurant and offer to make the turkey the mom brought.
