Please tell us how it goes. I just made stuffed mushroom caps (with shrimp) and they looked lovely but were rather tasteless.

The quorn one posted upthread is tasty but less festive and there are a few minute at the start of cooking it that the film smells so weird I wouldn't want anything else in the oven with it...it does go away after a few minutes and start smelling good though. The tofurkey one tasted gross to me.

+1 on the TJ’s turkeyless roast. All of our sides are vegetarian, so the main is turkey and turkeyless roast.

That said, I am totally trying the mushroom Wellington for Christmas. It looks like a great vegetarian entree, and the meat eaters in my family may even enjoy it along with the prime rib.

I don’t want to get accused of being a shill for the Times though…she has a great YouTube video walking you through the steps and the the filling can be made a day ahead. You just wrap it up in puff pastry and bake the day of.

I saw this too and may give it a try.

I am not vegetarian and would love to try this.

Not PP, but many people use Lion's Mane mushrooms for a vegetarian crab.

Of course that's not necessary if you are serving pescatarians.

Hearts of palm makes a good sub for crab in crab cakes and crap soup.

Anonymous wrote:I have been vegetarian for 41 years. There is no need for a "main" dish. All of the sides are what makes up your meal. Vegetarians don't eat a hunk of protein the way meat-eaters do. Maybe make some type of bean casserole and call it a main.

I disagree.

Vegetarians deserve as much thought for their meal as meat eaters. My eldest (now an adult) is a vegetarian since early childhood. When she hosts, there’s a clear main and complementary sides, just as you would plan for an omnivore’s meal.

Stuffed butternut squash, along the lines of this:

And don't forget a veggie gravy for all those sides!
