My gift variation on that theme has been dinosaur cookie cutters, small squeeze bottles for icing, rubber scraper, cookie mixes, and sprinkles.

Superhero pajamas also come in handy for daycare spirit days.

Agree with High Five.

Dot Markers - they run out and are a bit expensive but kids love them.

Books - we got the Stuff of Stars as a gift for DD and she spent about a month wanting to read it every night.

My son LOVES cooking and anything to do with the kitchen. We got him an apron and chef hat at that age and he really loved it. He’s five now and still puts it on every time he helps us in the kitchen. We just put it on a little hook in the kitchen and it takes up almost no space. You could include those knives for toddlers if you wanted to add something.

My little one has had the NatGeo little kids subscription. I think it's perfect for 3.5. He LOVES when they arrive in the mail. We read each one many times, and then when he finds it after several months, he's excited to revisit them.
