It sounds dreadful + punitive.

What? I'm a single mother of a teen boy. After meeting some dads of my son's friends, my son is way better off with a single mother. The dads are total jerks and I'm not sure how their wives can stand them. My son is going off to college next year. He is a decent person because of my efforts, not some random military school.

With a personality like that, I'm surprised you're still single.

He has good grades , smokes pot sometimes, and doesn’t get along with his mom. This doesn’t sound like someone who needs military camp.

I think it depends on the school. I have two male friends who were sent to military school and they were pretty traumatized by the bullying and violence.

Your friend could try the Naval Sea Cadets as an alternative to military boarding school. It helped in redirecting my son. The boarding school was the next step, but thankfully the sea cadets was just enough. Good luck to your friend and her son.

Unless she’s asking for advice, don’t give any advice.

One friend went there in HS. Sorted him out well. He came back for senior year, went to college, is now married, kids, good job.

I know two people who did it for their troubled kids and it worked wonders.
