All the sleep advice said keep your child in the crib until 3 unless they start climbing out. My DC didn’t climb, so we bought a big kid bed for the 3rd birthday and never had any issues with DC getting out of bed at night.

We didn’t even start potty training until 2.5, and while it went okay at home, the rest of her daycare class were still in diapers, so DC insisted on diapers/pull-ups. We switched classes right before her third birthday to a room where most kids were working on potty training and she was fully potty trained with no accidents within the week. Just needed the peer pressure.

It seemed like 2.5-3.25 was when most classmates were potty training too.

It’s fine, OP. You’re a second time parent - go with your gut as to when to get your kid out of diapers and crib. I think the neuro psych comments are directed at you, not your kid.

The day they turn 3, potting training will take a day or two

I potty trained both mine at three. I made attempts earlier but it didn't click and I didn’t feel like devoting my entire life to it. And then it just clicked — my daughter right at three, only one or two accidents total. My son was closer to 3.5 (super stubborn) and has never had an accident since we took the diapers away. This method was much easier for me. Your child sounds very normal to me.

My boys never wore pull ups. We went straight from diapers to underwear however we waited to potty train until their third birthdays.

My 5 (FIVE!!) year old is still in diapers at night, because he hates the feeling of the stretchy elastic sides on pull-ups at night.

He's fully potty trained in the day, and actually prefers sleeping on a pallet alongside his brother's bed more often than his own bed.

Kids are weird, and very different from one another. Your DS is fine, OP. Don't stress out about, people that are saying to go to the doctor about this are nuts. You'd be laughed at for being concerned that a 2 year old isn't potty trained.

This is normal. Nothing to worry/give a second thought about here.

My kid was potty trained at about 3.5 (night-time took until 7), and was in his crib until he was 5 years old, when we moved out of our one-bedroom apartment. Crib and potty-training are separate.

My almost 4 yr old is in a crib. He loves it and does not want a big boy bed. He never climbs out of it although sometimes I wish he would- he could safely do it. He fits and is happy so I’m fine with it. He is potty trained but I didn’t start until just after his third birthday. He does wear a pull up overnight and it’s about 50/50 wet or dry in the morning.

I potty trained DD at 2.25. We did naked on bottom over a three day weekend and she took to it quickly. She only wore a pull up for nap and overnight. I think PT with pull-ups can be confusing — it’s telling them it’s not ok to pee in a pull-up during the day when they’re supposed to be using the potty but that it is ok to pee in one when they were it overnight. Just my two cents.

Mine stayed in a crib until 3.5. PT wasn’t impacted because she wore a pull-up overnight so had one on when in the crib. Mine loves the crib but was also excited to try a big kid bed when we transitioned. We had a week or two of early wake ups and some middle of the night visits when she first got into the bed but it was short lived.

You’re not behind but your kid is def on the good age range to PT for sure.

2 1/2 still in diapers is TOTALLY FINE. My kids were both potty trained at three and in their cribs until three. Totally normal 3rd and 6th graders now.

This was the age our older kid was ready for those two transitions. Our younger one is now 2.5 and has 0 interest so we’re following his lead. We’ll reassess as we get closer to 3.

My son was the same - at 2.5, no interest in the potty. Impossible to get to sleep. Awake before 6 every single morning. No nap. At 3, he trained in a few days and never had an accident. His best friend, who trained much earlier, was still having accidents until much later. And for the sleep - he is a top athlete now and still needs a lot of exercise in order to fall/stay asleep.

My kid only trained after 3, and then it happened in a few days.

My 3.5yo was in crib and diapers at 2.5. He is STUBBORN and had just had to do things on his own time. After an earlier failed potty training attempt and him repeatedly saying he’d never stop diapers, at 3.25 I told him we were out of diapers and we could go to the store and use the money to buy diapers or a toy. He decided he was ready to be done with diapers. For awhile he had both a crib and twin bed in his room and he refused to even try the twin bed. He’d outgrown his pack and play so on a short trip I had him in a bunkbed with his brother and he did ok. When we got home he decided he was ready (I did make his crib disappear the minute he said that bc I wasn’t going to let him walk it back)

Similarly with pacifier he used it until almost 3 and wouldn’t budge on it. I stopped replacing and when he bit a hole in the last one he was fine being done.

He’s sooooooooo much drama when coerced or forced, but has eventually decided he’s ready when given his own time
