Once I had a bad migraine and was trying to nap in a dark room while my head was pounding and I was nauseous. My 10 yr old came in and whispered "What should we have for dinner?" for him and his 5 yr old sister.

I said, "Eat some cantaloupe and have one of those doughnuts."

They were happy.

Was thinking same. Those are normal meals for us. A no effort/just can’t is ordering in or tossing a pbj or Lunchable on table for kid with random fruit; and hummus and tortilla chips for me.

Frozen dumplings eastern european style and frozen peas (heated and add butter and salt) - kids favorite
Frozen pizza (oddly more effort for me since preheating oven and waiting)

The thought of 6 year olds making their own dinner is sad to me. Really any kid under like 12. Geez.

My 5 year old does this occasionally. Or makes his own lunch on the weekend. Usually a tortilla with nut butter and toppings like fruit, granola, etc. I don’t find it sad

Well I do. And there’s a big difference between making a simple lunch on the weekend and making your own dinner at age 6. I’m a kindergarten teacher and a mom of much older children so maybe that’s it.

Quesadilla

Can of soup with frozen fish poached in it

Box broth with added frozen vegetables and wontons

Mezze type dinner that’s just snacks, like crackers, hummus, cheese, apple, carrot sticks, boiled egg, etc
