Another thing i have to point out is that this year people complain about the food quality from the dining hall(the commons as at Andover) a lot. My children told me even the teachers mentioned the food was much better prepared before covid.

I loved my time at Exeter in the 90s. Im Asian American, female. It was the most important formative experience in my education, in so much as it was humbling in many ways and also helped me understand my privilege to be at such an elite school. I was 14 when I left home and I became so independent in my three years there. I wish I could send my two kids there, but spouse doesn’t agree.

I went to St Andrew’s. It is a great school with incredible resources. The teachers are invested in students. Class sizes are small. There is a good balance on campus between the arts and athletics; both are strong. I think the prior head of school was invested in making the school a supportive community. The available financial aid adds some economic diversity to the student body. Graduates go on to top colleges if that is a priority.

My son is at Mercersburg and it’s been a transformative experience for him. We didn’t consider St. Andrews but he was accepted to Lawrenceville. We chose MB because of its bucolic campus, its proximity to home, large boarding and international population and we loved the small, quaint town it surrounds. We very quickly realized that while all of those things were true, it’s the community that truly makes it special. My son is excelling in his classes, playing sports he’s never tried before, he’s comfortable and confident around adults and his peers. MB allows students to be big fish in the pond. It’s a very happy place even during finals week (which is right now).

I went to The Hill School prior to co-education. (As it was implemented in 1998/99, my experience is probably of minimal value to you, but I also very much enjoyed it.)

The Group of 8 lets The Hill School hang out at some of their parties. What's the view of Hill? Cannot say much about Andover or Exeter, but -- among the rest -- L'ville would be my top pick.

Have you taken the SSAT and, if so, your score.

Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania is nice. Tabor Academy if you want to be near the ocean in a small school environment.

For academic high achievers, Andover, Exeter, St. Paul's School, Groton, Deerfield Academy, hotchkiss, Choate Rosemary Hall. Lawrenceville in New Jersey is near Princeton.

Are you a straight A student ? Any sports ? Any particular interests ?

Academically, Andover is exceptional. Mental health issues should be investigated due to high pressure academic environment.

Otherwise, great school with easy access to Boston.

About 75% boarders / 25% day students.
