You don't sound very smart.

Deer poop is fine but dog poop is not?

If it’s not your property, YES, you need to pick it up!

How is your dog pooping so far off the trail if they’re on a leash? Or do you neither leash your dog nor pick up your poop, as is the law in rock creek park?

How is this a question, OP? Of course you should. Have you ever gone hiking and had to veer off path to pee? Do you want to step in someone's dog shit and ruin your shoes?

Rock Creek IS a national park and has been one since 1890 so I don’t know what you think has contaminated it worse than your dog’s crap or why it’s ok for you to treat the park like crap.

Your dog doesn't live in the woods, OP - clean it up. Only the wildlife get to poop and run.

- Also a dog owner who lives near a forest trail

You should pick it up both places but if you are only going to choose one you should probably do Rock Creek because all the dog poop is causing our local streams to fail water quality standards.

Just saying “oh everyone else’s dog poop is poisoning our streams so mine doesn’t matter” is pretty shameful

Ridiculous. Rock Creek park is so highly trafficked, you are a humongous jerk if you leave your crap there. Stop it.

As someone who has on more than one occasion stepped in your dog's sh*t: yes, please pick it up.

I've always picked it up in the past, but wondering if I'm a fool for doing that. I am reading the posts and taking notes.

It's bad for water run-off to leave dog boo behind. There are plenty of compostable bags you can buy. Having a dog is terrible for the environment...I am not judging, because I have two. But you do what you can---pick up the poo so people and animals don't step it in and it doesn't end up in groundwater.

Hmm, my dog has giant (literally) poops. I’d feel guilty, TBH.

If they were little or medium poops, sure….leave it.
