This is allegedly why it's in November. They say if you can do it in a short month with a major holiday, you can do it any other time.

For anyone participating on the forums, heads up about a mod allegedly grooming teen writers for months, HQ turning a blind eye, and data security concerns. Many users are deleting accounts and changing passwords.

Yes I’ve really been able to get my story rolling over the last couple of days, since I’m going for quantity over quality and have freed myself from trying to write something excellent. I can see why the NaNo model works so well - freeing myself from perfectionism is letting me make a lot of progress. I think I’m at almost 4,000 words now.

Anyone else start today? I just wrote a little over 1000 words and hope to add another 500 before bed tonight. Good luck everyone!

I've done it before but only for like 10-12 days, I've never made it the whole month. And I haven't attempted any project like this since my kid was a baby (now in 2nd grade). But it finally feels possible again so I'm giving it a go.

If you are thinking about it but not sure you can commit to the whole month, even just doing it for a couple weeks can do wonders for moving you forward on a project or just jump starting a daily writing practice if you struggle with that (which I always do).

This is good to hear! I was really set on 50k, but then looked at all my daughter's upcoming days off school, and I'm starting to resign myself that 50k might not happen.

I am! There’s a DC group on the NaNo site with several events already scheduled.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone is doing it this year? This will be my first attempt!

How many NaNoWriMo first drafts to you think feature a Thanksgiving Scene near the end of the novel?

I’ve reviewed for tense, grammar, filtering words.

It would be best for someone who is in the fandom to take a look, otherwise they’d have no idea the backstory on, nor attachment to, these characters.

How do you find people?

Post on dreamwidth community/twitter/tumblr/whatever your social media of choice is asking for a beta. Or if you don't have social media just post it on ao3 un-beta'd and put in the author notes a burner email/that you'd like a beta in the future if anyone is interested.

Just hit 26k. Day 16! I think it’s awful, but even the mornings when I’m just banging away on the keyboard … some of it turns out pretty decent.
