Favorite: Christmas. It's magical, I love the decorations, I love to cook and bake all the comfort foods, and hand with my little family in front of our fire with the tree twinkling in the corner.

Least: Valentine's Day. When I was in elementary school kids could buy Candy-Grams for other kids at the school (small private Catholic). Some kids, myself included, never got one. We noticed. It wasn't fun. My daughters school sold them too and I made sure to buy them for the class to make sure no one is left out.

If someone is in a great relationship then it's a great holiday. For everyone else it's a reminder they are alone. I am married, my DH is amazing, love him to death, we're in a great spot and yes, still least favorite holiday.

Not to mention the cancerous puppies (aka fresh cut flowers).

Fav: Christmas. So many traditions and activities to do associated with the holiday. The weeks of build up and things tied in to it make the holiday much more special than all our other 1 day holidays.

Least Fav: Valentine's Day. Really hate this one. never know what to get DH; he likes to celebrate on the day but restaurants SUCK that day since it's all set menus.

I 100% agree with OP on both. We should be friends. I was literally describing myself as a Halloween grinch to a coworker yesterday.

What I hate most about holidays is just the proximity of Thanksgiving to Christmas. Whyyyy are they only weeks apart? We should move Christmas to late January or early February, give everyone some breathing room from the previous holiday and give us something to fill that terrible winter void with no sunlight.

Christmas will always be special to me. It’s merry and magical. It’s a time tor family, friends, and especially children. It’s a time to think about giving to others, loved ones and strangers. As a Christian, it’s a day to remember and celebrate the blessing of Christ, although I think people can and should enjoy the secular parts even if they don’t observe the religious aspect. It’s also a lot of work.

Recently, my uber geek DH introduced us to pi day (3/14) and it quickly became a favorite because it is practically work free. Our family celebration evolved into:

Making a frozen yogurt pie ahead of time - 2 fruit type yogurts (I prefer the ones without gelatin, for a texture closer to ice cream, the ones with gelatin give a spongier (chiffon?) texture) a tub of coolwhip mixed together, poured into graham cracker crust, and frozen. Alternatively, you could substitute any frozen or bakery pie.

I love Halloween and 4th of July. They are both a lot of fun for me and I love chocolate and fireworks.

Thanksgiving is my least favorite because I don’t like a lot of the food and I’m not family-oriented. Also, my mom went into hospice care two days before Thanksgiving in 2020 and that totally ruined it for me.

Thanksgiving is my favorite. I ignore the BS Pilgrim stuff and just think of it as a a harvest festival. We host and I do all the cook, so all the food is delicious. I love it so much - good food, family, and no stressful present expectations.

I don't know that I have a least favorite, but I guess I find Valentine's Day to be pretty cheesy.

I love Thanksgiving and Easter, because we usually visit relatives.

My least favorite is NYE. I go to bed early, so I miss the excitement. I wake up early no matter what time I go to sleep, so I can't function the next day if I stay up late. Plus it's usually near the end of Winter Break, so it's the end of the holiday season and we have work and school coming up. I don't hate NYE, but it's my least favorite.

Least favorite: Halloween

- I hate the unhealthy candy
- I hate it keeping my kid up too late
- I hate how it's 2-3 days of crap
- It's not inclusive - costumes + candy are expensive, plus time commitment
- I hate the subject matter - it's against my religion i.e. witches and ghosts

Most favorite:

- Saint Patrick's Day. Zero pressure, I don't have to go anywhere or do anything or buy anything, but people are generally in a better mood and if I choose, I can participate and wear green, and go party only if I want to. Plus I love the color green.

Favorite: July 4, because it requires very little planning and preparation, and it's fun to celebrate in warm weather.

Least: Thanksgiving, because I don't like the traditional food and we live too far to go visit our families for a 4 day weekend when everyone else in the country is also traveling.
