In the south, driving an American suv is considered higher class than a foreign job.

My father drove a Stretch Cadillac Limo for the very rich. Every snow storm, rain storm, important place to be the rich clients called. Very rich people have bonded, insured, background checked drivers in other major cities they use. My Father also had to only have a car newer than 24 months old and had to be mint.

He drove Tommy Lasorda when Dodgers in World Series, Julie Andrew’s to Broadway plays, Drive several ex US Presidents and tons of CEOs.

In all he drove around 1.5 to 2 million miles without a breakdown or accident or ticket.

Nicest celeb Julie Andrew’s, biggest jerk Ted Kennedy.

Tommy Lasoda also really nice. Look Tommy took the limo to coach the 1977 World Series. Did not see him in a Camry.

Billy Preston really nice too. First ride ever in Limo with my Dad. He gave him a signed album.

The Escalade V series costs $150,000. CT5-V Blackwing $125,000. And they have a new super deluxe one that costs $300k.

In 1974 my Dads Limo had a $3,000 three way radio system where he could call home or dispatch and he could be connected to a phone number.

Very wealth famous people would ask for a reservation at Waldorf Astoria or dinner reservation at Tavern on the Green, or call home in the Limo. In 1974 was pretty amazing. Even more so could call him from pay phone for pickup.

It was like iPhones and Uber 40 years ahead of time

Every car is plastic!

WTH do you think cars are made of? Look at a car. ANY car, take your pick. Whatever isn’t metal, is plastic.

You are showing your age when you say American cars are unreliable. Yes they were big fat lemons from around 1973 to around 1993.

Younger petiole. Like my 22 year old daughter who I bought a brand new Chevy Cruze in 2017 has zero negative views.

She was not alive in that time period. Sadly a nut totalled that Chevy a few months ago. But she drive it from 12 grade and all through college with zero issues. Not like she will go OMG. And her friends with Japanese cars were impressed with Apple car play and other toys in that car.

My other daughter drives a GM car to college.

I have a foreign car. But my 22 and 20 year old daughter was not around in days of horrible GM products.

And price wise Toyota and Honda are too expensive.

Did you know the little Chevy Trailblazer is the number 1 selling new car in America for teen buyers.

And the Jeep Wrangler is hot hot car 18-29.

No 19 year old dreams of a 4 door Camry

This GenXer associates them with older people – because that’s what my grandparents drove when I was a kid. I cannot bring myself to do the math that would confirm that they bought those “old people cars” around the age I am now. So Caddies aren’t even on my radar because, in my head, I’m not old.

+1

I'm mid 40s and my very wealthy grandparents always drove a caddy. My parents, boomers, also think they are old people cars. Warren Buffet has driven one for decades.

I’m the pp who mentioned old people cars – and that’s precisely what I meant by “not on my radar.” And I was poking fun at myself for thinking I’m not the right demographic — I drive a legit fuddy duddy mom car.

I love them! I’d get one, if the price was right.

Too many people got burned with GM quality in the past. Cadillac is never going to will those customers back.
But if they can continue down the path they seem to be going and hang on, I think they have a good shot with younger Millennials, Gen Z, etc. who don't have preconceived notions.

Exactly. Caddies = for old people is tired old trope. The new caddies are amazeballs looking.
