I posted above. This is the only way it could work at most schools. Swimming will suffer, but that’s the choice kid has to make.
Correct, cutting back on swimming only affects him. Letting the band down affects them all.

You can’t consistently miss marching band. That screws up the other kids because of the spacing on the field. If you do marching band you need to plan to be there each time as the default (barring illness or something truly unavoidable)
