If you come to my house in a night other than Halloween, we won’t have candy. (I buy it on the 31st because otherwise I start pigging out on it.) You will instead receive travel toiletries, plain pencils, a quarter, or maybe a packet of ramen. See you on the 31st!

Why do we go through this every single year? Halloween is on October 31. Trick-or-treating will happen on October 31 just like it does every single year.

I've never heard of anyone in any part of the country going trick or treating on another night. I'm from Texas and we always went on 10/31. I'm always confused by these posts. If the community opts to go out on a different night, I would assume that would just be a one street thing. How could you even coordinate a city wide trick or treating on a different night?

I never understand this.

some towns do that to avoid bad weather or to take advantage of a weekend, non-school night

I grew up in the Midwest and we always trick or treated on Halloween. I never heard of doing otherwise.

Same here (St. Louis area) but was talking with a friend today who's from Chicago and she said not only did she trick-or-treat in her neighborhood on a designated weekend night growing up, but the place she lived even published trick-or-treat times, like from 4-6:30 pm. I never went out before dark, even when I was really little! So yes, there are definitely local/regional differences and you are not crazy for asking, OP. I hope you and your kid have a great Halloween!


Also from Chicago and this was not the norm. Must have been something special in her small neighborhood. Everyone else trick or treated on Halloween, not some pre set weekend night.

But yes, just like any other year, trick or treat is on Halloween. Remember a few years ago when it was on Wednesday? Still trick or treated on Halloween.
