My daughter wore a nice pair of black knit pants, a short-sleeved top with a nice neckline (not a t-shirt, but not a collared shirt or blouse), and a cardigan sweater, usually her favorite gray one. The shirt and occasionally the sweater varied, but she wore this outfit for just about every HS event, including open houses and shadow days. She looked neat and put together without being scruffy or overly formal, and it ensured she was always comfortable with what she was wearing and didn’t stress about it.

If it’s a school with a uniform or dress code, I would go more business casual for the open house, for parents and kid.

Not quite, but you’ve shown your true colors.

Weekend open houses seem very casual. Typical mom uniform: straight jeans, casual not athletic sneakers, sweater, maybe a light Fall jacket. (I wore loafers and somehow felt overdressed.)

Men were basically, generically dressed the same as the women. Kids looked like kids: jeans, some sweats/joggers, t-shirts, some hoodies, sneakers.

Weekday seems to be whatever the person would wear to work (in office or home). A few male, uber wealthy types will show up looking slovenly.
