We recently (in the last year) bought 3 couches - 2 to replace 15-year-old couches, 1 because we moved and had a formal living room for the first time. We bought one from IKEA (for the basement/TV room), 1 from Belfort in VA (living room), and 1 from Macy's (playroom/sitting room). The IKEA one ($400) is pretty uncomfortable but mostly it's the kids who use it and they don't care. The other two are fantastic. We paid about $1700 for the Belfort couch and $2k for the Macy's couch. We sat on a LOT of couches over a 3-month period before we chose them. And then we waited months for them to arrive. Everyone who comes over remarks on how comfortable they are. Hopefully they will also be durable!
Could you share the models that you bought at Macys and Belfort? IKEA too, helpful to know the uncomfortable ones as well!
