This is all good advice/reflection, OP, just please don’t essentialize this and start tell people, oh Number Two here just doesn’t like books as much, etc. I see so many moms do this and it’s such a disservice to the kids! Two may end up being a bigger reader in the end; One might just be more compliant. I hear this all the time from moms of boys (saying out loud- in front of the child!- oh, they just aren’t big readers). It makes me cry. You are creating a non reader by saying that out loud! Ok- rant over. Keep on reading to both of your sweeties. ❤️

Op here thank you all and as I wrote earlier I am eating my humble pie ha! Funny I’m still trying to read to my youngest and my oldest just stops his play and comes cuddle within a few seconds poor thing thinks we’re reading books…but of course after a minute the baby is like neahhh I’m good peace out haha

I am a librarian and the expectation amongst my coworkers and friends was that I was going to be reading non-stop to my kids but I noticed my babies didn't really have the attention span for books until they were about 15 or 16 months old. We started incorporating bedtime stories as a substitution for nursing and it organically transitioned to a different bedtime routine.

Congratulations. You now have two kids and each one is who they are. This is the point where you realize that so much of what went right with your first child had a lot less to do with your parenting, but instead with their personality. Some babies will sit still, but others won’t. I suggest you read out loud and try to see if your toddler will do things in time with the story (like read books about farms and have the baby make the noises or walk like a duck) when they are able to do so. Funny voices also help.

Neither of mine sat for long at that age but the oldest was more interested than the younger one. He really liked interactive books like lift the flap and the ones with mirrors etc. it’s fine to just wait big that is something you enjoy doing with them you can try something like that. Also soon you will notice their interests and be better able to pick books that will draw them in. My little guy loves anything with cars. But no matter what don’t try and force it or put too much value on it.
