I loved President Obama but when they started naming schools after him a shook my head. Who knows what the future holds and what standards they’ll have in 75 years. Then will be drama and renaming. Just call it twin Pines school or deep lake high school.

Magruder parent here, and I hope not. He is honored because of his status in the Revolutionary War and as one of the founders of Montgomery County. Not because of slave ownership. He wasn't one of the hundreds honored during the confederate monument movement in an attempt to rewrite history.

You know, I'm typically on the side of righting historical wrongs no matter the cost, but several of the folks on that list are absolutely insane inclusions.

Montgomery Blair, an avowed abolitionist who represented Dredd Scott in front of the Supreme Court? Yeah, we can keep that name even if Blair's extended family did enslave people. His family can rot in hell, but he did the right thing against massive societal (and likely familial) pressure. Isn't that what we want to celebrate?
