Even with 1200, he's a slam dunk for UNC Charlotte. With a near 1300, I think he's solid for NC State. But if he's lower than 1250, NC State may be a reach, even as URM. Really depends. Don't apply to College of Engineering if this is the case.
UNC Charlotte has a much different vibe than NC State, though.

Thanks- very helpful. He is interested in business, sport management, criminology- he is all over the place. He LOVED his NCSU visit- loves the campus and the vibe of the city. I agree Charlotte will feel very different.

Male, 3.89 UW, Latino, Not taking SAT until 3/23 but guessing will be in the 1200-1300 range. JV/Varisty sports all four years, 3 APs, 8 honors, works PT, some volunteering but nothing Earth shattering. Unsure about major so not sure about specific programs in terms of applications. Full Pay

Almost no chance for admission to the University of Texas at Austin as Hispanic/Latino representation is at or above 25% (an over-represented minority) and only 8% of the student body is from out-of-state.
No chance based on shared data for the University of Florida which is very similar to situation at the Univ. of Texas at Austin.
NC State will be a reach as only 12% are non-residents.
Univ. of Georgia is a reach.
Assuming an SAT score of 1300 and class rank below top 10%, applying to the Univ. of Georgia, Univ. of Florida, and the Univ. of Texas at Austin is an absolute waste of time & money. Not even a five (5%) chance of admission at any of these universities. About 5% chance at NC State.
The good news is that your son should be accepted at many great schools such as TCU (which one website states that TCU has the most attractive female students of any university in the country), Baylor (which seems to be growing in popularity due to excellent sports programs), UNC Charlotte, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, ASU, & South Carolina.
FSU, Miami, and SMU are reaches.
Super helpful post until this one WTF comment. Makes the rest of what you said worthless because now you seem clueless.
(Not OP).
