Either way, that style is too casual for an evening wedding. You need a cocktail dress.

I agree no, but this is so rude! Who cares really who wears what? Aren’t you just glad people showed up for you? Or do you choose your friends and judge them based on what “cheap ass” clothing they wear?

You only know it is old navy because OP provided link. And some people aren’t as uptight about what their guests spent on their outfits as you are. I see a lot of potential with that dress…the right heels and jewelry can make it work.

Black is fine to wear to an evening wedding, not a daytime one.

I’ve never heard of the ‘no black at weddings’ rule. Not once.

Dress is fine.

People on DCUM overestimate how much people pay attention to wedding guest attire, as long as it isn't wildly inappropriate (i.e. sweats or jeans). That black dress is totally neutral and forgettable. Accessorized, it is perfectly fine for an evening wedding.

Only if it’s black-tie at a formal venue after 6 pm.

If you add nice jewelry and shoes maybe. It’s not this exact dress but something similar? Really depends on the fabric to me. If it’s very thin/flimsy I’d go with something else.

I'm someone who often gets complimented for my style and i think Old Navy is absolutely fine if that is what you're comfortable in! Don't let these naysayers get you down.

Work it, no matter what. Anyone who cares about brands that much is just insecure themselves

No, its black, shapeless and old navy.

Go to TJMaxx or Marshalls and buy a nice brandname dress for less.

+1.

Yes to black! No to Old Navy.

I think it's generally fine but just a heads up that some cultures consider wearing a black dress at weddings as taboo.

It might seem silly and obviously superstitious but I appreciated the bride mentioning it in the invite
