Our psychiatrist will diagnose after an extensive intake appointment with both parents and kid. I agree that the testing is important but get in with a psychiatrist now as they are hard to get new patients appointments with.

I do not know your practice - but if they can't, they should be able to get you an appointment for someone who will.
I am not saying to throw around phrases lightly - but anything you can relay around mental health may help you jump the line for getting an appointment.

Some of this is chalked up to "typical teenage" - but make some notes and observations to share.
Example - all weekend he was crawled in the fetal position under the covers. (Classic for my child for when there is a big assignment due that he has struggled with initiating)

A psychiatrist or even your pediatrician can prescribe meds. They do not need a neuropsych to do so. We were in a position similar to you a few years ago during the start of the pandemics. Neuropsych testing had basically stopped and waitlists were long. We did a zoom consult with a psychiatrist and he prescribed meds right away. The two pieces (adhd as a learning disability vs. adhd as a mental health/lifestyle issue) don’t necessarily need to be connected.

Ped and get on waiting list for psychiatrist bc ped will often throw there hands up if dosing but very straightforward. Neuropsych is not necessary unless other learning issues.
