They especially seem to frown on parents who supplement; I remember a thread where someone was asking about extra math and reading for kindergarten and the consensus was that getting your child too far ahead of the others makes their job harder so don't do it. They want you to teach them how to tie their shoelaces and zip their coats instead.
At our public school they don't allow parent volunteers at all except at evening events so there is no contact with the teachers. They ask for Amazon wish list contributions.
At our school it's just the opposite. The kids that are ahead just get ignored so the teacher has even less work to do. My kid's teacher, for example, has taken 4-5 personal days this month on top of the many holidays. Personally, I have to not only supplement I have to teach them to read and do math since the school mostly neglects them.

That’s Reddit teachers. They come from schools all over the US, many of which differ dramatically from MCPS.
Yeah, that doesn't sound very MCPS. We were told in 3rd grade "all the kids get supplemental math either thru a class or a tutor and you should do the same to keep up"
and we did and our kid is now in 10th and STILL has a weekly math tutor.
That’s a certain kind of MCPS. My kid is in compacted math at MCPS and we don’t know anyone who does math supplementation. That’s an easy county thing.

Anonymous wrote:Parents are known for only providing negative feedback so for the most part, teachers don't like or want anything to do with parents. They are pretty open with each other about their disdain. Especially with all this "Parent's Right's" nonsense going on.

Anonymous wrote:I need you to reinforce polite behavior with your children, and teach them that school is important. I don’t need anything else. If your kid is at school every day, keeps their hands to themselves, and tries to engage with the material, then we are good.

Can you all just send nice emails and bcc every one? I really have trouble with all the apps, websites, weird emails with pdf attachments etc. Too many places to find out any sort of information. A message on an app isn’t a good communication method.
Very few of my parents have email addresses.
Then even less would have smart phones to get the dumb app on.
