“Police said the teens were released to their parents under “community detention” – an alternative to incarceration in which minors stay at home under supervision. It sometimes includes electronic monitoring.”
Is this really how we should be handling these cases? Curious to hear others’ opinions.
It sounds like the parents weren't doing a good job controlling their 14 year olds in the first place. Why will they do better this time?
Why is the judicial system okay with people pointing guns at others? Have you ever had a gun pointed at you during a crime?
Exactly. 11 AM on a Tuesday and they were committing felony assault and car jacking with a gun instead of being in school.

Every stereotype about conservatives being too dumb to read is 100 percent true. This happened in Rockville, MD which is a different legal system than DC.
Since you appear to be quite literal, let me rephrase the PP's statement so that you can understand it better. Every ridiculous stereotype of liberals being soft on crime and criminals is 100 percent true in cities across the US.
Let us know if the big words are giving you trouble.
It’s literally legal to shoot people (stand your ground) in other states. Nice tough on Crime BS.
As it should be. If someone is robbing you by force, or your home, you have every right to use lethal force as a countermeasure.
This is just common sense.

The recividism rate for youths in community detention is a lotttt lower than youth held in confinement facilities. Prisons & jails just make things worse.
