Stop pretending that high achieving is a large cohort at Blair, the common cohort represents like 100 kids at Blair and the majority of the kids at the other schools you mentioned while glossing over the best high schools in the county Whitman & Poolesville. If that common cohort is so prevalent to define the school why are their score school wide among the lower of the county even with the magnet inserted specifically to boost scores and perception?

Facts don't lie. The bottom line is when we do a nuanced apples to apples comparison discounting demographic differences Blair wins.

The Blair magnet program wins... big time. The rest of the school not so much.

DD is a junior at Blair and loves it. The school is huge but communication is amazing. Principal posts news and updates on social media so we feel like we are in the loop as parents. Sometimes we hear about the goings-on before DD does. There are so many activities at lunch and the kids can eat outdoors and throughout the building. The PTSA raised money after Covid remote time to buy more outdoor picnic tables so kids can eat outside. The lunch activities are posted on the school website and on social media every week.

Classes were normal sized 20-30 students usually.

My kid was in a magnet, so was in repeated classes with other students. Did some clubs, orchestra and a sport.

There are ways to make smaller groups. It is a nice community overall.

It's very much like going to a small college. You can go there four years and only know a 100-200 people because those are the people you always took classes with and with whom you are in sports and/or EC. It's also not as supportive as your average SLAC - so, a bit sink or swim in 9th grade. It's not for everyone, but it is a quality education for those that want it.

Way bigger than a lot of small colleges.

They have a radio station?!

They have a television station - Blair News Network. They have a national award-winning bilingual newspaper, and they have an award-winning yearbook. They have a 4-0 football team. They have kids that consistently win or place in CSPAN documentary competition and Intel/Science Competitions. The top 1/3 of children have above a 4.5 weighted GPA - and before you say "inflated" - know that very few kids who take the AP Exams score below a 4 or 5 - which tells you that these kids are just damn smart and/or hardworking.
