The most liberal member of the Council is Janeese Lewis George. But, since she is not a "white clueless left of left liberals" is she okay to the previous poster? Are leftists okay as long as they are not white? If that is your position, then it is fair to ask what other races or ethnicities you oppose.
If you oppose Silverman because you think she has been condescending towards people of color, but you wink and nod to people who complain about "white" people on the Council, I doubt the sincerity of your initial concern.

I really don't know who I'm going to vote for. I don't like any of the candidates. Crime and enforcement is very high on my list of concerns but no candidate seems to meet that need. Silverman is to progressive, Bonds seems to have done nothing in her time on the council and is just taking up space. The fact that McDuffie tried to run for attorney general and failed and then switch to independent to run for at-large really rubs me the wrong way - seems like he's just desperate to do anything. I've looked into McLaughlin but the vibe I get from him on crime is to feel sorry for the criminals and invest in more violence interrupters.

Does it surprise you that in D.C., that two Council seats are reserved for anyone but Democrats? I think it would surprise many.

I AM sick of rising violent crime and feel the council has drifted too far to the left, especially on that issue. I will be voting for McDuffie (and Bonds).
But aren't they incumbents and responsible for the current mess? What vote have they lost that led to more crime?

McDuffie sponsored a bill that completely did away with the last remaining consequence for ignoring traffic citations. And you like him for being tough on crime?

Yeah, that's criticism from the left. I agree with those critiques, but find McDuffie and Bonds even worse options. So who is left? I'll probably throw my vote to whoever seems like a genuinely good person. Or maybe I'll hold my nose and vote Silverman to keep a liberal vote on the council.
She sounds like a pretty terrible person. There are too many accounts that tell the same story: arrogant, condescending, and plays the victim card accusing others of anti-Semitism. This kind of stuff to me is disqualifying for an elected official.
I have known Elissa Silverman since 2007 when she was a Washington Post reporter and have followed her career closely. I have both opposed her candidacies and supported them. I support her now. In all of those years, I never heard a single allegation that she behaved in the manner described in those tweets. I'm not saying those tweets are false, but that maybe we should hear her side of the story.
Silverman has been the victim of anti-Semitic attacks. She was called a "fake Jew" by a speaker at a rally held by supporters of Council Member Trayon White. The megaphone was actually being held by one of Mayor Bowser's closest supporters:

Silverman reacted to that and other incidents with grace. When White earlier claimed that Jews controlled the weather, Silverman reached out to him and encouraged him to meet with Jewish groups. The two Council Members later attended a Seder together.
I'm sure there are troubling personal anecdotes about all of the candidates -- whether true, false, or exaggerated. But, if you look at performance on the Council, Silverman has an enviable record. She has taken an extremely serious approach to oversight on her committees and has important legislative victories. Her effectiveness has ruffled some feathers, but DC needs some feather ruffling so she has my full support.
I had a personal interaction with her once about 5 years ago. It was small potatoes, but I totally believe the condescending attitude. She's like a right-wing charicature of smarmy liberal who talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. If I vote for her I'll be holding my nose.
I dont know her personally, but I find the accusations troubling and sadly believable. I am liberal and work with very liberal people but have encountered similar condescension towards people of color (I am one). I believe people EOTR as well as those like me EOTP want something more to be done about crime. We're fed up. Stop telling us what we believe. We want our streets to be safe, our neighborhood schools to be good. We want it to be safe for our children to walk to those schools. We want streets to be safe for everyone. Period. Doesn't matter the color of the skin of the criminal, they need to be held accountable and the current Council and Mayor aren't doing enough. Next time someone is carjacking your car in Ward 3, how about we send some violence interrupters to intervene? yeah, thought so. It doesn't cut it for you, it doesn't cut it for us.
