Exactly, those West county schools whose boundaries were gerrymandered 40+ years ago with the expressed purpose of keeping out the poor. This is why those parents so vehemently oppose any boundary study even though it would massively reduce transportation costs.
You're kidding, right? Have you heard of the upcounty boundary study which the upcounty Clarksburg parents vehemently opposed because it would require more time on the road and more busses? Literally, my friend within his one block, there are kids assigned to Neelsville MS, to Rocky Hill MS, and John Poole MS. That's 3 middle schools- 3 busses going into this neighborhood to serve 3 different middle schools; and 3 busses for elementary, and 3 busses for high school. RIDICULOUS!
There will always be blocks where two or three schools come together.

Youre nuts, You could draw the circles anyway you wanted for schools like Whitman, BCC & Churchill and you would only get different rich kids. DCC and NEC are where a few streets over make all the difference in the world and the most fighting has happened over the years. BCC was already stretched east to pick up a part of silver spring specifically for diversity. Stop acting like all the decisions in the past were done out of hate and none of your local boundaries are targeted either.

Not only have they lost social skills. School administrators and teachers can no longer discipline students nor are there repercussions for terrible behavior. If there is no accountability or punishment for bad behavior, why do you think kids will stop?
School administrators shouldn't handle these situations. All this winging is just silly. We have laws that cover assault. Simply call the cops and let them do their jobs.

Another MS teacher here. It’s almost always over what adults would consider “nothing”. But for the kids, at some point they lose their ability to self-regulate and some end up in a fight. Think toddler tantrum - same basic problem. Worst fight I ever had in my room was between two friends sitting next to each other. Kid A had been bugging kid B all day about something stupid and continued during my class. Kid B suddenly lost it and landed a solid fist to kid A’s nose. Kid A ran for his life around the room, blood streaming, with kid B in hot pursuit and raging angry. I managed to get between them and break it up. But wow, it was quite the scene. Did it sound horrific to other parents? I’m sure. Was it? Not at all. (And yes, afterwards I thought it was funny and kid A learned a lesson.)
This sounds exactly like my older brothers, in the 1960s. They got into those batshit fights about anything. I do think kids mostly fought off school property so they wouldn’t get detention or suspended, or sent to the school for kids who fight.
I am an extremely peace loving and easy going woman but I can remember getting into like a slap fight or something with a female friend in HS, which I think was about a boy or something she said. It’s crazy I can’t even remember what made me so mad now but I do remember I was sooooo mad. I was a really good student and I think the teacher told me to take a walk and cool off or something. I didn’t get in trouble.

My DS is in a W MS and when he was in 7th grade last year told me of about 5 fights that he had witnessed inside his classrooms. I was really surprised, but he is also in that age group of kids that suffered socially from the Covid lockdown as others have described.

I went to an UMC public middle school in the 80s, and it was exactly the same.
It was cracked down on pretty hard in the hallways—they “paddled” for repeated smaller offenses back then, and fighting would probably get you suspended—so there was a unofficially designated spot off campus where fights would happen after school. If someone challenged you during the day and you didn’t show up after school, your reputation would be toast.

Read the posts from the teachers. My DD attends school in a different district but last year the counselors and teachers said it was like some of these kids were feral. They'd lost social skills.

DP here. My kid goes to a school where there's a fight daily. It's a majority black and brown school so most fights are done by black or brown students; and honestly- they never get in trouble.
