OP, your child is obviously picking up on your body insecurities. Kids do anyway, and especially when their parent is dieting, and especially when they see their parent excited about losing weight and getting complements about it. And if she thinks thin makes you look better, good grief, how is she going to feel if she gets chubby or god forbid fat? How is she going to think of you if you gain the weight back, which, sorry to say, is pretty likely?

Lose weight if you want to but what your child said to you means they already have an unhealthy relationship with body size.

Sorry, OP, I agree with PPs. When DH and I dieted to lose the COVID pounds, we said we were changing our eating to get healthier and stronger. My almost 7 year old has no concept of dieting for weight loss, and it wouldn't occur to her to compliment me on getting smaller. If not for anything else, kids LIKE squishy mom bodies. They like to snuggle with a soft, cozy mom, not a bony hard bodied one.

But congrats on the weight loss! That is great progress, even if not appropriate for a child.

OP, these posters are ridiculous. You’re kiddo was sweet to notice and frankly I think we are not doing our kids any favors by pretending being fat is ok. Good luck on your journey!

Poor OP, haven’t been here long enough to know the posters always turn against OP.

My opinion is good for you, OP! Sounds like you are doing great and glad you got some motivation to keep going, if that’s what you want.
