My formula usually is: 1 shortbread variety, 1 chocolate, 1 with a holiday spice profile, 1 nut-based, 1 wild card (in past years I've done lemon, peppermint, savory, ricotta etc.)

Spritz

Rollo pretzels
Peppermint bark
This is the basic list I do every year for our family and friends. I make a full batch of each and then make little variety boxes as gifts for our friends and neighbors. We like to have a big cookie plate for Christmas but there is no way we could eat them all ourselves.
Rollo pretzel recipe please?

+1! If you aren't interested just don't comment people, please. Geez, DCUM is so full of freaking Heathers sometimes, I swear. OP thank you for posting this because I too am already starting to think about Cmas and it takes me several months to get my act together. I appreciate the recs in this thread!
I usually do the following:
* "Spritz" cookies, but rolled/cut-out instead of pressed because that's how my mom always made them
* Vanillekipferl, which are such a pain to make but DH's favorite and very tasty
* Chocolate cherry thumbprints
* Pumpkin cookies - yes they feel more Thanksgiving, but they are so good
* Gooey buttercake cookies/bites, because I am from St. Louis![]()
Side note to the poster who asked about puppy chow cookies (though I wasn't the one who mentioned them), they're a spinoff of the puppy chow mix made with Chex, which is really addictive.
