We have a designer puppy too and it takes time and patience. Don't do anything harsh or mean. They are just babies.

+1 on Zak George, especially with a new puppy. He has so many helpful videos. I only used his videos and techniques to train our challenging cattle dog, pit bull, and great pyrenees mix puppy, and now at 1 1/2 years he is turning into an amazing dog.

Nipping is normal. Get lots of different toys, bully sticks and redirect. They are starting or teething and its painful.

It is nonsensical to wholly dismiss someone's training methods.
I like many of Cesar Milan's training tactics. I strongly believe that some training methods work for some dogs--and some don't.
Clearly, OP, your dog responds to softer training methods. I hope you are able to rebuild trust with your pup.
My dogs (one medium, one giant breed) respond very well to Milan's (alpha/pack) training methods, which absolutely do not involve abuse.

Positive training is good for tricks and is fun. But when it's the only training, it's obnoxious and leads to obnoxious dogs.

I agree. He's a macho, dog-dominating fool. You need a relationship to develop with your dog, not to teach your dog who's boss. Now you have to regain your puppy's trust.

OP here I am so appreciative of the Zac George idea. Great energy and positive training style. My puppy had a great night with me and the kids using lots of mini treats and positive reinforcement.

Anytime anyone says they follow Cesar Milan, I know they haven’t dealt done their research. Switch gears and learn about positive reinforcement, especially with a puppy. It’s not too late. I also really liked Zach George.

Take a class with Blue Ridge Canine, they will come to you.
Use treats to direct the dog to do what you want. Throw a treat in the crate, "go to bed". Dog goes in. You don't touch him.
Make dog sit and wait for food. Also to go in or out of the door or the car.
If dog hurts you in any way, say OW and all fun interaction stops.
Keep a leash on him at all times so you can control him without touching him.
Redirect his mount to a toy.
Teach the dog to "SPEAK" so that then you can teach him "QUIET"
Talk to your dog about what you are doing in simple language such as she uses for her talking dog, like you would a toddler:

So "we did walk this morning, walk later. Settle now"
Name the things that you give/use with the dog, like the leash, food, water, poop, toy, treat, etc. etc.
They understand a lot more than you think.
