UVA McIntire is not "much better in fact". I do dislike rankings, but UT is ranked 7 in higher rated in USNWR, vs T8 for UVA, so there is that. UT is a direct admit, which makes it better for those who really want to concentrate in business for most of 4 years vs. 2 years. This is particularly helpful in areas like accounting, if that is what you want to do.

In 2021, McIntire's B.S. in Commerce once again ranked as the 2nd best undergraduate business program overall in the U.S. by business education website Poets&Quants, and was ranked 1st in the U.S. by alumni satisfaction for student experience, maintaining a top three spot on the list for the fourth consecutive year.

I know five families who are leaving Austin because of the homeless and disease problem and the Californians moving in. It's not what it used to be. Read up on it before you decide. If you are in-state for either and admitted, the OOS option doesn't make too much sense unless it doesn't matter from a financial perspective and you have a strong preference. Both are very difficult admits from OOS.

In-state, UT has an automatic admit rule based on state legislation and accepts all students in the top 6%. This can make it easier or tougher depending on the student (i.e. top 7% and 1600 SAT score is not admitted while a top 6% with 800 SAT is admitted). The 6% does not apply to individual programs like business, so they can be more selective yet.

As a recruited D1 athlete, the coach, facilities, and team needs/dynamics should be a consideration.

Male = UT
Female - UVA
Female = stay as far away as possible as you can from TEXAS.

UT business is direct admit, though. UVA is a two-stage admit. You are admitted to UVA and then have to apply to McIntire in the second year (50% or thereabouts accept rate). So there is that to consider.

Both are awesome!! Just get the kid to register to vote the second they arrive on campus.

No one refers to UT as UTA. I say this as a Texan and UT grad.

In fact let me stand corrected.
My kid crossed it off the list for the location and other factors
However UT McCombs is actually a very good option for business in general.
OOS tuition is not bad at all and in fact cheaper than UVA instate? LOL

So UVA McIntire is definitely better but the huge risk, so I would say overall tie.

Wow, congrats OP! Your kid must be a very fine athlete indeed. Not sure if it would work with a D1 schedule, but UT has some amazing honors programs. Check out Plan II. I really wanted my kid to apply for that.

In terms of which school, they are both excellent. We spend a lot of time in Austin, and I went to UVA for law school. Charlottesville is nice in many ways, but I’d much rather spend four years in Austin. I love the way the university is integrated into the city. I expect your child will have a preference after visiting both.

You’ll want to check whether athletes get priority registration at UT as it can be hard to get into some classes like at any huge state school. Hopefully your child will have the chance to get to know both teams and coaches before deciding. One of my kids is playing a D1 sport and the team and coach dynamic has had a major influence on his college experience.
