It’s still 30% lifetime divorce rate at high income and education levels. It’s pretty much a myth that it doesn’t happen at certain income levels.

In my APS elementary I have only known three kids in DD's grade who were divorced, and none in DS's grade. Of course, I don't know all that many people! For my APS middle school I feel like half of DD's friends have divorced parents, I'm just going by the stories kids are telling me. When I meet parents it's all superficial and we don't tend to talk about marital status.

But OP, you and your kid will be fine. I did notice that the divorced moms tended to form their own little support group, so I'm sure you will find people like you. <3

No, I agree they would be idiots.

My daughter is in 3rd grade and I know about a few families with parents who don't live together. But honestly, it's not something I think too much about beyond "I wonder which parent has custody on my kid's birthday party weekend".

My son is in 5th. I just made a whole grade email list of parents for the PTA. Small school but outbid 35 kids, there was one kid with divorced parents and one kid with parents who were never married (which I know because the mom is my friend.)

But, the parents in the grade swing wildly in age. For some, this is their first and they are mid thirties. For some, this is their third or fourth and they are almost 50 or a few dads in their 50s or 60s.

Would you say that to a victim of domestic violence who divorced her husband? Domestic violence happens at all income levels and all races, so don't think it's just those poor brown people down in South Arlington.

This is someone who knows divorces are more common when kids are certain ages, and who is lonely. You don't know her personal situation. She's not saying that she wishes people get divorced. She's just stating the obvious, and asking when they've seen in Arlington that is likely to occur.

People often don’t know the couples who are separated and divorced. Many divorced couples appear at school events together, so you would never know. My ex and I do. But I understand your question OP. It’s good for kids to feel less alone. By middle school, about 1/4 of the parents are divorced and by high school according to stats somewhere around 30% of the parents will be divorced.

I only know two sets of divorced parents of my 5th graders 80 classmates.
