We had brawls at football games with other private schools, public school and pretty much anybody who wanted a piece. The police had to be called on one game against Whitman as the brawl was so out of control, they had to clear the stadium. Anybody remember the old McDonalds at Mazza Gallery? The one on the Jennifer Street side that was downstairs? Constant brawls outside and inside between all kinds of kids from every type of school. There were particularly violent groups from Landon and Whitman/BCC always there causing issues. It was worse on weekends as alot of kids congregated there to find out where the parties were so they could convoy to them. Huge brawls a these parties in Potomac and in NW as well. There used to be a movie theatre near that McDonalds on Van Ness, across from the Post Office on Upton and it was always having fights in the 90's when I was living in DC. It was on the news all the time. Its not new people.
I'm from DC and have lived through all the eras you mention. Don't recall anything on the scale of what is being said to have occurred on Friday - if it did. Additionally, that would not make it "right". Brawls are dangerous and the McDonalds is a nice place that serves the whole community--including lots of seniors and I would say from observation homeless camper-outers as well. It should not be the site of ANY brawls.
