Ugh as a mom of three boys is planning on a fourth child I can relate to people making this (incorrect) assumption!
I’m pretty sure they are both from big families and are likely just trying to have a bigger family, themselves.
But he's been vocal about wanting a son. They are 3 brothers in that family, and both brothers are cops. They are a big bro family.

Oh no. That’s a lot of pressure. Why don’t rich people just do IVF if they really want one specific gender?

Because maybe they don’t really care? Also, IVF is time consuming.

They wanted a big family anyway but I’m sure this helped make their decision to go for it easier. I initially wanted 3, but when I got my boy and my girl I realized we don’t actually need to go for the third.
I had a boy and a girl but wanted three kids and had a 3rd. I think the whole gender thing is really only important to parents who are fixated on having one specific gender. There are plenty of us who genuinely don’t care!
+1
I’ve never understood people basing the number of kids they have on gender. I find it odd to be honest
